Pander-Fest As Always

It’s clear now Senator Noynoy Aquino is not the only one running a campaign anchored on the popularity of a dead personality. If Noynoy has the memory of his parents, Ninoy and Cory, to prop up his platform-less campaign, Senator Francis Escudero has the seemingly undying appeal of Da King to fuel his.

Yes, the Chizman has lowered the bar further by choosing to exploit the memory of erstwhile presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. In a pathetic attempt to boost his masa appeal further, Escudero has resorted to using devices identified with FPJ. If you’ve been listening to AM radio lately you would have already heard the senator’s radio commercial, which features the very same campaign jingle used by FPJ back in 2004. You’d probably remember that jingle by its anthemic line “may bagong umagang parating” (a new morning is coming).

I don’t about you but to me this trend of exploitation of the dead is so low. But, I guess this is just how things go when candidates can’t come up with real substance with which voters can base their evaluation and decision.

Well, true to his usual form, Chizzy came out with a number of pandering statements during his pander-fest of a press conference at Club Filipino in San Juan earlier today. His supporters may think otherwise but one of the worst things Chizzy said today was his reason for resigning from his political party the Nationalist People’s Coalition or NPC.

(I believe that anyone who plans to run for president of this country should not be allied with any political party. His only party should be the Philippines and his party mates all Filipinos.)

Since when did the Philippines become a party? Oh wait! It is one big party, a big fiesta of fools.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure Chizzy’s rabid fans will lap this up and all his other motherhood statements without even thinking. What can we expect? Dumb candidate, dumb… oh never mind.

Seriously, who is Chiz fooling? He didn’t leave the NPC because of some pseudo-altruistic/patriotic crap about not wanting to be chained to a party. Chiz left the NPC because he was not getting the support he wanted from his party of 11 years.

While I may be able to ignore Chizzy’s statement, I certainly can’t do the same with the fact that many immature, juvenile and mindless people (and I’m not just talking about his youth supporters) would actually take the whole thing as another proof that Chiz is not a traditional politician. Can’t you people see beyond the spin? Oh well.
Moving on… I think I’ve just found a simple way to know for certain if, at this point, the Philippines is still headed for many years of non-progress. My simple method involves what I shall henceforth call the “Chiz-Noy Metric of Doom.” What you do is simply check if the number of Chiz and Noynoy supporters continues to grow. A decline indicates relative safety. The Philippines may still have a chance. On the other hand, an increase especially one that is exponential is a red flag. That should tell all of us that we’re all doomed.

The term “new” has been used many times by politicians.
Marcos used the “new society, new republic”. Escudero
is using “new morning”. At the end of all of this. We
will find the old politicos, the old vested interests,
the old political players, etc…It is an overused term.
I am just tired of it.

I can only entrust my vote and my country to Noynoy-Mar. We have more than enough on the likes of Marcos, Estrada and Arroyo. These leaders are known to be intelligent, having long track records, highly educated, etc., but because of them, we became one of the most corrupt countries in the world. What a dishonor!!! Estrada even claims (all the time) “para sa masa, para so mga mahihirap” but what is he again? a plunderer, right! In reality, ang mahihirap ang ninakawan niya. Enough is enough! In this hard times, I’m going for the most honest candidates: Noynoy-Mar!!!

    leoneli,

but don’t you think you ought to wait for their platforms first? honesty — no matter how genuine — can do very little if the leader has no clear plans.

  3. Papi for President

According to Chiz, “Hindi puwede na nakakadena ang kamay at paa sa partido.”

He said he believes that someone who wants to run for president in next year’s election should not be allied with any political party.

just sharing this short post i made: http://papiforpresident.wordpress.com/2009/10/31/chiz-escudero-quits-npc-so-chiz-ee/

No, for a change, I will go for the most honest and genuine canditate: Noynoy-Mar. Of course it is also a marketing gimmick of those who are against Noynoy to say that his honesty is such and his platform is unclear or something. You don’t know if Noynoy can or will do very little just because he has no clear plans right now. No one knows that since no one knows the future. But we already know what happened yesterday and today having leaders with long lists of platforms and promises – they did very little or nothing for the country. They only became filthy rich. So, what happened to their platform? You see what I’m sayin’?

    leoneli,

of course i know what you’re saying… but if you care to expound further that would be much appreciated. as far as i know we’ve certainly had many candidates in the past who came out with promises. some of them even got elected. but that’s the point. in the past all our candidates did was make promises. no one really came out with a true platform. i hope you know the difference between promises and platforms.

anyway that’s the whole point of what i’m saying if we want real change why don’t we start with how we assess our candidates. instead of just relying on how we perceive them why don’t we make enough noise and demand that they provide us with real platforms not promises and most certainly not just dramatic panderings and theatrics centered around dead people.

i’m sure you’re a sensible person leoneli so i’m confident you’ll get what i mean. but i’m sorry to say but with your last comment you’re just confirming that you’re really not assessing noynoy properly. at the very least you’re just going by your gut feel or worse you’re just jumping on the yellow fever bandwagon. pardon my language but that’s really dumb.

as an exercise why don’t you give me just three real and practical reasons why noynoy will be good for the country. just don’t give me that honesty crap about him because i don’t think you or anyone else can really say for certain if noynoy is honest, can you? and obviously honesty alone does not in any way ensure good governance.

    leoneli,

i almost forgot. i find this part of your comment really interesting.

“Of course it is also a marketing gimmick of those who are against Noynoy to say that his honesty is such and his platform is unclear or something.”

i guess you’re alluding to me. well, i don’t know where you got that idea but i can assure you whatever it is i’m doing is no marketing gimmick nor is it being done for the benefit of anyone particular candidate. unlike you, i still haven’t made my choice yet for the simple reason that i am still waiting for RELEVANT INFORMATION that should help me choose who is really capable of leading our country for the next six years after the may 2010 elections.

it’s also funny that you think this is all a marketing gimmick. is it not obvious that i am just an ordinary voter who is trying to do due diligence. you should do it as well if you’re a voter.

i’m now wondering if you’re really just a noynoy fanatic or a paid hack. either way your decision to give your support to noynoy this EARLY is hardly an example worth emulating. i certainly hope more voters see the importance of doing due dilligence and demanding that the candidates reveal their platform NOW. if you can’t see yourself doing that the least you can do is not be a bad example to other voters.

May the Lord watching over you…God bless you Chiz!!!

Looks like we have a long way to go to become a matured democratic government. So far we are electing people who doesn’t know what they are elected for. We need qualified personalities, expertise, gives pride to our country and never mind corruption, just like jueteng, legalize corruption @ 5%….. Mabuhay… I’m nearing my retirement and I want to go home and see a new Philippines, my Dearest One……
