Good post! But please bear in mind that not all voters are “intelligent” and discerning. For the majority, one quality is enough, and that is trustworthiness.

As Dr. Melba Maggay puts it in an article:

“Social trust, like social capital, is one of those intangibles that oil the machinery of governance… A major task of leadership is the capacity to inspire faith in the integrity and efficacy of its institutions. Societies fail when the trust level is so low that people can not even take the word of their leaders seriously, much less begin to cooperate and build things together…”

The way politicians speak/campaign to the electorate makes me disagree with onetamad on this one. Sure, people have become even more cynical now than in the past decades, but that doesn’t mean the majority couldn’t be duped anymore.

Anyway, it’s only today that I came across your Hindi Ako Uto-Uto Movement (let’s call it HAUM for now, for brevity) pdf document. I must commend your effort in making HAUM, and let me just say that this has tremendous potential because:

(1) You’ve kept it simple;
(2) You made both an English & a Tagalog version;
(3) HAUM encourages a necessary mindset of choosing AFTER thinking, not before; and
(4) You’ve made it light enough for email.
