ABS-CBN Attempts Mind Control With EDSA Movie

Media’s role in the dumbing down of Filipinos was again made obvious by the recent programming decision of TV network ABS-CBN. During the Holy Week, the media giant decided to air the movie “A Dangerous Life” which depicts the events leading to the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Yellow-infected Pinoys will surely balk at my claim that the airing of that movie is contributory to the “stupidification” of an entire nation. But here is direct evidence of that. For how else would we describe ABS-CBN’s deliberate attempt to stir nostalgia over a ‘miraculous’ event such as EDSA 1? By itself it would mean nothing at all, but, considering the obvious bias of this network for Senator Noynoy Aquino, the attempt at mind control is quite clear.

What ABS-CBN fails to realize though is that they cannot trick people all the time. I watched the movie while having a meal at a restaurant and I overheard two waiters talking about it. One of them pointed out the obvious that “nanguuto na naman ang Kapamilya network” to which the other replied with the rather speculative remark “eh paano stockholder ang mga Aquino.”

I swear I almost approached them to express my admiration for their ability to detect bullshit. Good thing I hesitated because the middle-aged coño-looking man seated on the table next to me butted in and said with a stern tone, “Hindi ninyo mahal ang bayan.”

I’m sure those two waiters didn’t get any tip from that customer.

Anyway, that wasn’t the end of it. Immediately, after the man with the yellow plan spoke out and the waiters had retreated into the kitchen, the man’s companion who looked like his son gave him a minor admonition. I didn’t hear the exact words because unlike the older dude this guy was polite enough to speak in a whispering tone. What he said went something like this:

“Sobra naman kayo. Porke ayaw kay Noynoy hindi na mahal ang bayan. Kaibigan niyo lang kasi si (name not clear) kaya kayo Noynoy. Tsaka bakit niyo ginanun yung waiter mamaya duraan yung pagkain natin.”

Bwahahaha.

I sure hope that fashionista-patriot enjoyed his soup with a generous serving of sputum. Sanctimonious prick.

very typical of a noynoy supporter; self-righteous, with pretensions of moral superiority, pseudopatriotic, drama queens

Actually, this is not the first time ABS-CBN aired this in an apparent attempt to bolster Noynoy Aquino’s rating. Just a week or two before Holy Week, its sister station Studio 23 aired it. When this movie was aired in Channel 2, it confirmed my suspicions of an Aquino bias when it was aired in Channel 23.

    elevic,

yes, i actually saw it also on studio 23.

the holy week broadcast is particularly interesting because it coincided with that time period wherein filipinos are by tradition supposed to be in a contemplative state. seems to me though that abs-cbn failed to realize that most filipinos no longer practice reflection during the holy week. for many of us, holy week is party-time. so wa-epek din.

of course, i’m just making this all up. :)

and I though ABIAS-CBN can’t get any worse, and millions of Filipinos actually swallow all this crap. the problem with most of us today is that we like to reminisce about the past. well people, Edsa happened more than 20 years ago. it won’t happen again. get over it. with all the Edsa Revolutions going on, something once great and noble is now just a mockery of its former self.

for one thing, Noynoy is NOT Ninoy. it’s disgusting that he uses his dead parents to appeal to voter’s emotions. lineage itself doesn’t make for a great leader. for all his years in the government did he ever pass one bill? no, he did not.this country cannot afford a leader who obviously has no track record nor a concrete platform. what is he going to do? just wing it and hope for the best? will you allow someone to run this country through trial and error?

how about the Hacienda Luisita issue? the maltreatment of farmers has been going on for decades, and now he is running for president, that is the only time he will distribute his lands. ask yourself, is his so-called act of benevolence sincere? or is he just doing it because he stands to gain something? wake up people!

if Noynoy does win the presidency, i hope he runs this country down to the ground. maybe then we’ll realize that a leader is not about who is popular or has the most money. it’s about SERVING THE PEOPLE. maybe we’ll just pull another Edsa Revolution; that is always the solution to our problems right?

What we fail to realize after so many years is that EDSA 1 ain’t about democracy but oligarchy… Why do Filipinos love ninoy/cory… ask yourself this: What did they really do for the country?

    [Reply]

    Deo Reply:

Korek! Like what i usually say, the RISE OF THE OLIGARCHS!
During marcos regime these Alta de sociedades people cannot rise through power coz Marcos was too greedy to share and his Rolex cabinet. So what they did was to take a ride to opportunity from Mama Cory who was the Lady of Sin (cardinal sin). Afterwards, they ousted Marcos and become the new leaders of our society. Some moron told me Oligarchs were already here even during the spanish regime, true there were oligarchs, lets be speicific…

Which SET OF OLIGARCHS? Makati Business Club set or the Marcos Rolex set? Where the hell was democrazy? Mama Cory went to power and all hell break loose, animals are free to roam the country. And we are chained in rosary and false information through biased media like Channel 2!

Ninoy really did something for the country: He reincarnated the HUKBALAHAP and thus, became the first armed component of Joma Sison’s NPA under Kumander Dante.

Cory also did something for the country: He freed Joma Sison from imprisonment.

what a patriotic thing they did..

I do agree on this. For a big media company, ABS-CBN does fit the now famous ABIAS-CBN. The Filipino people should stop watching ALL their shows. Our nation suffers, a true freedom is still not fulfilled up to this date. I just hope that Filipinos will vote wisely and elect the most qualified candidate. There’s only one, it’s Dick Gordon!

nabwisit ako sa “Aquino’s lead widens in Philippine opinion poll” article ng ABS-CBN na nakita ko sa Yahoo! PH News today..excerpts:

“The poll, conducted on April 16-19 and published on Monday, showed that support for the son of the country’s late democracy icon, Corazon “Cory” Aquino, edged up 1 point to 38%. The country will hold national elections and launch its first automated vote count on May 10.”

“Villar’s ratings have slipped since February, when he closed in on Aquino’s lead with a 2-point margin, partly due to allegations by his critics that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her husband were supporting his candidacy.”

“Former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada, ousted from office in 2001, and administration candidate Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro remained at third and fourth respectively in the SWS poll.”

notice what’s wrong with it?? ang mga kalaban ni Noynoy dinagdagan ng negative comments.. kay Noynoy, hindi nilagay na 12-year inutil politiko sya.. ABiased-CBN talaga..tsk!

you are right! ABS-CBN did not even bother to ask him tough questions, especially about how he wanted to be a lawmaker and while being one for 12 long years, did not pass any single law?

    Philippine media sucks!
