Cha-Cha Burat Cha

If there’s a will there’s a way.

The latest report is that the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments had an emergency meeting today and approved Resolution 1109, which seeks to convene Congress into a constituent assembly. This lines up the resolution for plenary deliberations.

You just have to admire the 22 members of the committee who voted for the resolution’s approval. They know there is very little time left for the measure to be throughly discussed in plenary but still they had it approved. Perhaps there are plans for marathon hearings and midnight approvals. That’s determination for you.

I wonder though if any of these lawmakers could show the same level of commitment in passing legislation that will truly benefit the general public like a law that would ultimately put a stop to government graft and corruption.

But wait. Some congressmen did say they want Resolution 1109 to go through the plenary so they could once and for all have it dismissed by then. Hmmm. Wouldn’t it have been simpler if they just had it dismissed at the committee level now or last week, or last month or the first time it was even brought up?

I’m also wondering if any of our congressmen even bothered to consult with their respective constitutuents on this charter change issue. I know I wasn’t consulted by my congressman. How about you?

Congresswoman Tricia Bonoan-David, my district’s congresswoman in Manila, didn’t call on me or my wife to ask my opinion about charter change.

Neither did Congresswoman Carmencita Reyes, the congresswoman of my wife’s province Marinduque.

Why do we call them representatives if they don’t represent us?
